Are You Ready For An International MBA?

They say that the choices you make decide on the life you live. If you are thinking of obtaining an MBA degree abroad, you are indeed about to make a life-changing decision! How to make sure it is the right one?

There are colleges known for an MBA in International Business, but your choices should be based solely on the area you wish to specialize in. In other words, concentrate not on the destination per se, but on the specialization you want to study – and then decide on the location of your future studies.

It almost goes without saying: always check the accreditation of the MBA college that interests you. Gather all the data you can on the school and the program.

How valuable is your international MBA degree going to be in your home country? Or, are you planning to settle abroad? If you are interested in pursuing a global career, then yes – an international MBA is probably the right choice for you.

Realistically, what are your chances of being admitted? After all, you are going to compete with prospective students from all over the world. Also, the MBA colleges abroad might have wildly different criteria than those you are used to in your home country.

Keep in mind that every country has different requirements for obtaining a student visa, and there might be other entry requirements as well.

Do you know the local language? Are you prepared to learn it?

Studying in a foreign country also means being exposed to a different – sometimes very different – culture. A student is expected to adapt to a new way of life, with new people and different worldviews. And it’s not only the locals: there are going to be other international students from all parts of the world on the campus with you. Professors might be foreign nationals as well.

You must be financially prepared for a foreign MBA, because the cost of studying abroad is likely to be significantly higher than when studying in your home country. It is not only the tuition fees that need to be taken in consideration, but also various living expenses such as paying the rent and the cost of healthcare. Don’t forget immigration process fees and the like. Make sure to explore scholarship opportunities if cost is the issue for you.

Finally, talk to the admission officers and recruiters. They should be able to clear all doubts you might have about a specific college or program.
