Four Winning Characteristics of a Viral Message



There is a reason why actors thrive in controversies, these controversies keep them famous. It’s that simple, something that is being talked about is famous. That should also be the goal of a marketing message: to be talked about, to be viral. So, what makes a message viral?


1. It should be Fresh – a message, a product, a campaign idea should be fresh and unique. If possible it should offer something that has never been done before, or something that serves as an innovated version of those that are already established in the market. It is the uniqueness of the message that will initially gain the interest of the people, and would eventually discuss.


2. It has some entertainment value – you wouldn’t want to bore your audience, do you? If you have that sense of humor, then flaunt it. Don’t intimidate your readers with the seriousness or formality. People are more likely to spread the message if they themselves were entertained by it. Videos have remained to be an effective communication medium; it has the greatest sharing feasibility.


3. It caters to the viewer’s needs – customers can be self-centered. They always want to know that they are not wasting their time with you. So, it is crucial to clearly establish what you can do for them, or what they can gain from you – and maybe what their friends, their family, and other connections can gain from you, too.


4. It offers some incentives – Economics proved it, that people positively respond to incentives, thus the existence of freebies, promos, among others. How about you? What small things can you give back to your target consumers, for at least taking the time to listen, to read, or to watch your marketing message? Coming up with incentives or a reward system makes it easier for your primary audience to promote it to the constituents, because undoubtedly they will make that their promotional edge.


Word of Mouth is very important in internet marketing. You can be in the social media, but if you are not talked about, then being in the social media is futile. Word of mouth can go places, that you may impossibly be able to reach.
